The time has come to turn the page on what has been a truly unforgettable chapter. Over the past few months, we’ve been living in Spain – a country that has found a special place in our hearts. We know, without a doubt, that we’ll return.
From the rugged northern coastline, shaped by the raw beauty of the Rías, to vibrant cities like Seville and Cartagena, bursting with history and culture – every stop has left its mark. One of the places that stood out most was the charming town of Ayamonte. Nestled on the Spanish-Portuguese border, it was there we felt especially at home. The sense of community, of family, among the locals was truly heartwarming.
We then cruised along the more touristic Costa Blanca, discovering little gems tucked away between the crowds – and for us, Jávea was a clear favourite. But it was upon reaching the Balearics that summer seemed to truly begin. Crystal-clear bays, shimmering blues, and lazy days at anchor brought that unmistakable Mediterranean magic.
From Ibiza to Mallorca, each island revealed something new and beautiful. Mallorca, however, stole our hearts. It offered the perfect blend of culture, natural beauty, and everything else we could possibly need. It’s safe to say it now ranks firmly as our number one.
Now, we find ourselves in the north of Mallorca, preparing for the final Spanish island on our route – Menorca. We’re looking forward to soaking up every last bit of Spain: the tapas, the “olés,” the warmth and kindness of the people.
Soon, we’ll be sailing into a new culture, as we cross over to Sardinia. It’s a night passage we’re excited for – though the timing depends, as always, on the weather. The wind remains the only unpredictable guest on board, but we’re patiently waiting for the right window.
In the meantime, we’re keeping busy with boat jobs and work, all within the comfort of our now-familiar floating home. We’re excited for what lies ahead – new adventures, new discoveries – but it’s safe to say that Spain has given us more than we could have imagined. And we’ll be carrying those memories with us for a long time to come.
The next steps of our journey are also shaped by some special plans. Philou and I will be flying back to the Netherlands from Sardinia for a meaningful milestone – one that we’re both really looking forward to. Meanwhile, both Sardinia and Sicily promise some truly special guests joining us aboard – familiar faces we can’t wait to welcome and share this adventure with.
So yes, the journey continues – in full swing – into la bella Italia! We’re ready for more magic, more memories, and whatever surprises lie ahead.
